The largest and finest place to shop in Hudson County is Newport Centre, which opened in October 1987. In the center of Jersey City’s Newport Hudson Waterfront Community is Newport Centre, an amazing three-story indoor mall with temperature control, offering over 167 stores to satiate your shopping desires. Have a retail therapy at your favourite stores like Sephora, Adidas, Forever 21, Coach, Bath & body Works, Pandora, Zara, Aldo and many others.

Newport Centre is easily accessible to the Holland Tunnel and is approachable through the Path and the Hudson Bergen Light Rail. The center, which is complimentary to JCPenney, Kohl’s, Macy’s and four department stores, has more than 130 specialist shops, offering everything from women’s clothing to sporting goods to beauty and health supplies. Newport features abundant options to suit every visitor’s taste buds, crowned with an 11-screen theatre and a 1,000-seat, and newly rebuilt Dining Pavilion with over 19 eateries on Level 3. Furthermore, Newport Centre offers tax-free clothing shopping.

The architecture of Newport center:

The Newport Center is a prodigy of modern architecture. It is one of the largest malls in the state with floor area of 1,153,000 square feet. The mall has 3 floors, topped by an 11 screen cinema, 130 specialty shops and a 1000 seat dining pavilion with 19 eateries on level 3. The layout easily guides visitors from one place to another. The mall is a part of the largest Newport complex, including the Newport Tower. This tower is the sixth tallest building in Jersey City. The mall caters the needs of differently-abled, with intelligently placed ramps and elevators.

Anchors of the mall:

Anchors are the pillars of any mall. The mall holds seasonal sales, black Friday sales and events, making it the center of attraction. The mall is anchored by four unique stores:

  • Sears: is the best place for appliances and tools. You can find everything here from a screwdriver to a washing machine.
  • Macy’s: offers clothes, furniture and beauty products
  • JCPennney: also offers clothes, furniture and beauty products.
  • Kohl’s: provides pocket-friendly clothing, home goods and toy options.

Stores:

In October 1987, the mall, which had four anchors and 167 shops and various other attractions, partially opened to the public. Two of the four anchors that were open at the time were Stern’s and Sears. The 1,200,000-square-foot building was intended to entice shoppers from Bergen County, where blue laws hinder shopping malls from being open on Sundays, as well as locals from the new Newport waterfront development and the surrounding area.

On November 12, 1987, The Smurfs, Senator Frank Lautenberg, and New Jersey Governor Thomas Kean attended the mall’s official opening. There were seventy-five tenants in the mall on that date, including the two anchor stores mentioned earlier, Sam Goody, Benetton, Eddie Bauer, and Hallmark. The mall is anchored by JCPenney, Kohl’s, Macy’s and Sears.

The mall includes A/X Armani Exchange, Aeropostale, Aldo Shoes & Accessories, Sephora, Fossil and many others.

Wide exhibition of tenants:

The tenants of the Newport Center cater the various needs and interests from H&M, Forever 21 to Art Mango. There is AT&T and GameStop. Visit Sephora or Bath & Body Works for special treatment.

Kids are also entertained here in stores like Toys R Us at Macy’s. Kid’s stores ensure the little ones are not forgotten. For exquisite gift items you can visit Swarovski Crystal and Kay Jewelers.

Foods and beverages:

Newport has various options when it comes to dining and the food court is a swarming area featuring various cuisines, from fast foods to specialty like Obox Sushi and The Little Beet. Mall has famous romantic and family restaurants like the Cheesecake Factory and Shake Shack. For snacks you can head to Auntie Anne’s Pretzels, Cinnabon Haagen-Dazs. You can enjoy different beverages, from the classic Starbucks Coffee to the trendy Gong Cha.

Transportation and Parking at Newport Center:

The mall is accessible via the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail’s Pavonia/Newport station. These stations offer complete and comfortable services for their visitors. New Jersey Transit provides routes that serve the mall, for those who choose the bus. These buses link Jersey City Heights and the North Hudson towns of Guttenberg, North Bergen, West New York and Union City to the mall.

Whether you are arriving by public transport or driving, you can park easily, as the mall has a three-story parking structure
